Cylinder Head
Most cylinder heads have normal wear and tear and are reconditioned relatively easily but expensively, this wear and tear occurs as a result of poor use and maintenance and especially due to bad driving.
In some cases, the cylinder heads have cracks or other serious wear and tear and it is preferable to purchase a new or second-hand cylinder head.
Unfortunately, the big manufacturers have made it so that the car behaves nicely when driving under revs, which for a diesel engine is murder, the calamine deposits leading to the destruction of the engine. Diesel cars with an automatic transmission are even more prone to this because they change gears much too quickly.
To get the best performance from your car, I recommend driving from 1800rpm upwards for diesel engines and 2000rpm minimum for petrol engines.
The operations performed in order to recondition the cylinder heads are the following:
- ascertainment
- disassembly
- washing
- mechanical cleaning
- valves grinding
- replacing valve guides
- reaming or tapping the valve seats
- flat rectification
- replacement of valve seals
- deactivation of hydraulic lifters
- mechanical lifter adjustments
- extraction of broken spark plugs or injectors
